Having many foreign guests we often went to Schiphol. Hardly anyone had a car and taxis were expensive butwe always had an old car (for moving beer barrels). We collected people from and brought people back to the airport. It was nice to pick up family of friends or people who came back every year. Only if we could, of course, not if we had to work.
A lot of times we had a drink in the Schiphol bar, the Brainbox. Occasionally coffee but mostly Heineken as a farewell drink. Sometimes we stayed a little longer, if the plane was delayed or so. It could get really cosy then. And so we were seen as guests in the Brainbox bar and one time when we came in we heard the bartender say with a big smile to an American “There they are …these are the people I was telling you about. These are my only regulars.”
Once, when Rob and Liz were departing for Australia in ’83, they stopped by the Cor-rupt for a farewell drink. When it was time to go to the airport, Cor decided to close the bar, organised transport (5 cars) and everyone moved to the Brainbox bar in Schiphol to continue the farewell. They were the last to board the plane!
